One of our workers recently visited a new city. He set out on a long walk—nearly three hours. Walking has always helped him to stay focused while praying. As he turned the corner on a long street, the call to prayer suddenly rang out from a large mosque ahead of him. The Arabic words echoed through the air, filling the streets. Almost instantly, hundreds of men emerged and began moving with purpose toward the mosque, answering the call to worship.
He kept walking.
He realized he was the only one moving in the opposite direction—one person walking against a tide of people all headed the same way. Faces turned. Some looked curious, some confused. It was clear that his direction didn’t make sense to those he was passing. And somehow, that simple picture said everything. Christ followers are very few in this city. Following Christ there means walking against the current—thinking differently, worshiping differently, living differently. It can be lonely. It can be costly. It demands a deep dependence on Christ and a strong reliance on the Body of Christ to persevere.
As he walked, he prayed for the men passing by him. He joined other believers in interceding for the city and its people.
The harvest truly is plentiful… but the workers are few.
Thank you for walking with us, praying with us, and standing with us as we continue to listen to where God is leading People International.
